“It’s Not Fair.”
This is an adult Fiction-Fantasy book following psychological and ethical themes, as well as action, battles, fun banter, and a subplot of romance.
Opal Tempest awakens in the afterlife only to find out her judgment is nullified because she committed suicide. The Gods sentenced her to one hundred Earth years of Reaper service and an eternity in the Underworld after. The law of the Reaper is that they don't interfere with death, but simply escort souls to judgment. Upon the start of her sentence, she discovers a truth that shakes her moral compass. An external force, known as Rogues, plagues humans, coercing them to commit suicide. With this information, she realizes that suicide is not completely autonomous and believes the system is not fair. Through her service collecting souls, she confronts a situation that forces her to make a decision: complete her sentence and ignore her moral compass, or break the rules and upset the balance of the afterlife. Which will she choose?
The story follows an ethical debate regarding justice, mental health, and suicide. With a character who fights for life in death, and a set of Gods considering that their law is not perfect. Follow Opal through her journey of self-reflection, forgiveness, and the realization that there is more to death than she thought.
